Peter Boncz presents keynote on MotherDuck at DW & BI Summit 2024

At the eleventh edition of the DW & BI Summit, Database scientist Peter Boncz will present his session Hybrid Query Processing in MotherDuck. The DW & BI Summit will take place on March 27, 2024 at the Van der Valk Hotel Utrecht and will also be available remotely via a live video stream.

Peter Boncz leads the Database Architectures research group at research institute Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in Amsterdam and has been involved in six startups. Boncz has a strong track record in bridging the gap between academia and commercial applications, receiving the 2006 Dutch ICT Regie Award for his role in CWI spin-off Data Distilleries. In 2008, he founded CWI spin-off Vectorwise.

In his keynote Hybrid Query Processing in MotherDuck, Peter Boncz discusses this new service that connects DuckDB to the cloud. He covers the motivation for MotherDuck and some of the use cases, as well as key features of the system architecture. To provide context, this session will also provide a brief overview of the DuckDB architecture. This session will be Dutch spoken!

As in previous years, the eleventh edition of the DW & BI Summit offers an extensive program of lectures by speakers from the Business Intelligence field. Live video stream
The DW & BI Summit in Utrecht will be additionally accessible to registered attendees via a live video stream online. The conference documentation will also be available digitally as early as a few days prior to the conference. The presentations on March 27 will be recorded and we will make the videos of the sessions available to registered participants online afterwards.

Workshops
Following this, a series of workshops will take place on March 28, taught by Mike Ferguson, Alec Sharp and Panos Alexopoulos. The workshops will be face-to-face in Utrecht only, so no live video stream:
– Data Products – From Design, to Build, to Publishing and Consumption by Mike Ferguson (half-day, English language).
– Concept Modeling for Business Analysts. A practical half-day workshop on ‘concept modeling’ by Alec Sharp (half-day, English)
– Knowledge Graphs – pragmatic approach and best practices by Panos Alexopoulos (half-day workshop in English).
