Shane Gibson has spent more than 35 years in the data and analytics domain, in roles spanning enterprise, solution and data architecture, product management, presales and consulting, and more than a decade coaching data and analytics teams on how to deliver using an agile mindset and Agile Data patterns. In 2008 he founded OptimalBI, a business intelligence consultancy in Wellington, New Zealand, and in 2019 he co-founded AgileData.io, which combines a SaaS data platform with proven Agile Data Ways of Working. Originally from New Zealand, he is now based in the UK.
Shane is the creator of the Information Product Canvas and the author of the Agile Data Guide series, beginning with An Agile Data Guide to Information Product Canvas. He is known for a practical, no-nonsense approach to simplifying complex data challenges and for bridging the gap between technical data teams and their stakeholders. His work centres on patterns and pattern templates that data practitioners can pick up and use immediately, helping them deliver value faster, reduce waste and have more fun doing it. The Information Product Canvas is the prime example: a way to capture data requirements in 30 minutes, in a shared language, so stakeholders love them and data teams can build from them.
He hosts the Agile Data N’ Info Podcast, was a founding co-host of the No Nonsense Agile Podcast, and has authored courses including the popular “Gather data requirements in 30 minutes using a shared language”. He speaks regularly at conferences and meetups across the agile, product, GenAI and data domains.
